This week, our students had an incredible time celebrating PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) Week at FJC. Thanks to the tremendous generosity, planning, and hard work of our PTA, the entire week was filled with exciting activities designed to celebrate and promote a love of reading.
Each day, students eagerly looked forward to our Masked Reader Competition, where they tried to guess the identities of mystery readers from our school community. The excitement continued as grade levels competed to “Race Across FJC,” earning miles for every student who read at home in the evening.
Families also had the opportunity to shop the Book Fair throughout the week, helping students discover new books to enjoy both in school and at home.
Students were also treated to a fun-filled magic assembly with Chris Johnson, who amazed students while reinforcing the message that reading opens the door to imagination and adventure.
The highlight of the week was our Family Literacy Night, which welcomed over 300 students and family members for an evening of reading and fun. Families participated in interactive literacy activities, explored our interactive floor, read glow-in-the-dark messages, met three local authors, shopped the Book Fair, and said hello to special guests Pete the Cat and Edward the Eagle. The night ended with an incredible balloon show that had everyone smiling.
This wonderful week would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work happening behind the scenes. We extend our sincere thanks to our PTA and our amazing librarians, Ms. Sicurella at FJC and Ms. Lipkin at JAE, for helping create such a memorable and meaningful celebration of reading for our students and families.
