PARP Week: A Celebration of Reading at FJC!

This week, our students had an incredible time celebrating PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) Week at FJC. Thanks to the tremendous generosity, planning, and hard work of our PTA, the entire week was filled with exciting activities designed to celebrate and promote a love of reading.

Each day, students eagerly looked forward to our Masked Reader Competition, where they tried to guess the identities of mystery readers from our school community. The excitement continued as grade levels competed to “Race Across FJC,” earning miles for every student who read at home in the evening.

Families also had the opportunity to shop the Book Fair throughout the week, helping students discover new books to enjoy both in school and at home.

Students were also treated to a fun-filled magic assembly with Chris Johnson, who amazed students while reinforcing the message that reading opens the door to imagination and adventure.

The highlight of the week was our Family Literacy Night, which welcomed over 300 students and family members for an evening of reading and fun. Families participated in interactive literacy activities, explored our interactive floor, read glow-in-the-dark messages, met three local authors, shopped the Book Fair, and said hello to special guests Pete the Cat and Edward the Eagle. The night ended with an incredible balloon show that had everyone smiling.

This wonderful week would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work happening behind the scenes. We extend our sincere thanks to our PTA and our amazing librarians, Ms. Sicurella at FJC and Ms. Lipkin at JAE, for helping create such a memorable and meaningful celebration of reading for our students and families.

Magic, Laughter, and a Love of Reading! ✨

This week, our students were treated to a little extra magic as we celebrated Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) Week at FJC!

Thanks to the generosity of our PTA, students enjoyed an exciting assembly featuring magician Chris Jonson, who amazed the audience with mind-blowing tricks, lots of laughter, and an important message about the power of reading. Throughout the show, Chris creatively connected his magic to books and storytelling, reminding students that reading opens doors to imagination, adventure, and endless possibilities.

The energy in the room was incredible as students eagerly participated, cheered, and discovered that reading truly is magical!

We are so grateful to our PTA for sponsoring this engaging and memorable experience. Events like this help reinforce the importance of literacy while making learning fun and meaningful for our students.

Keep reading, FJC — the magic is just getting started!

FJC Gives Back — And Our Community Feels It ❤️

We proudly delivered over 800 food items to AGAPE Meals for Kids and the Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry as part of our SOUPer Bowl food drive.

The response from both organizations was incredibly moving.

Ms. Michalos from AGAPE shared:
"Every single item you collected is something we use in our bags. That may sound simple, but it means so much. Because of your school community, backpacks will be filled a little fuller and delivered with a little more ease. Please let your students know that their kindness is traveling directly into the hands of children right here on Long Island who truly need it."

At Trinity Lutheran Church, members of the pantry pointed to an empty shelf and told us:
"We were running low on so many items. Your donations will fill these shelves and more. We cannot believe all this came from one food drive."

Think about that for a moment — shelves that were nearly empty are now filled because of the generosity of our FJC families.

To our students, staff, and families: thank you. Your kindness is not abstract. It is tangible. It is immediate. It is making a direct difference in the lives of children and families in our own community.

We could not be more proud of this amazing school community. Your generosity means so much to so many.

Celebrating Friendship in Ms. Gallino’s Class

Ms. Gallino’s class recently completed their SOAR Board, and to celebrate their accomplishment, the class chose to have a special Friendship Day!

Students spent the day participating in friendship-themed activities that highlighted kindness, teamwork, and appreciation for one another. One of the highlights of the celebration was creating friendship links, where students wrote kind messages about their classmates. These thoughtful notes were then linked together to form a chain representing the strong connections within their classroom community.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate their hard work and commitment to living our SOAR values. What a fantastic reminder that kindness and friendship help all of us continue to SOAR!
