SOAR Display

Our Eagles Are SOARing!

If you’ve walked through our building recently, you may have noticed our school-wide SOAR Eagle taking shape—and filling up with feathers! This display represents our collective commitment to demonstrating our SOAR values of Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect each and every day.

Each time a class completes a SOAR Board by consistently modeling positive behaviors, they earn a SOAR feather that is proudly added to our eagle. The feather chart helps students track our progress toward our school-wide goal of 50 feathers, while the growing eagle display brings that progress to life in a visual and meaningful way.

This initiative encourages students to take ownership of their behavior, celebrate one another’s successes, and recognize that individual actions contribute to a stronger school community. As the eagle fills in, it serves as a daily reminder that when we work together and live our SOAR values, we all rise.

We are so proud of our students for the positive choices they make and the respect they show toward one another. Keep an eye on our eagle—each new feather tells a story of teamwork, responsibility, and school pride.

SOAR Celebration in 1st Grade: A Snow Day to Remember

After completing their SOAR board, Ms. Terveen’s class earned a well-deserved celebration—and they chose a snow day filled with creativity, collaboration, and fun.

Throughout the day, students rotated through snow-themed learning centers that encouraged imagination and hands-on exploration. They engineered snowflakes using marshmallows and toothpicks, painted wintery designs, built igloos out of sugar cubes, and even created “snow” using shaving cream and baking powder. Each activity reinforced teamwork, problem-solving, and joyful learning.

Math took on a winter twist with a “snowball fight.” Students tossed paper snowballs, then opened them to reveal fact families. The activity culminated in an adorable snowman fact-family craft, reinforcing math skills in an engaging, memorable way.

To wrap up the celebration, students cuddled up with blankets and stuffed animals, enjoyed warm hot chocolate, and watched Frozen together. Even Edward the Eagle joined the fun—wearing pajamas, snuggling under a blanket, and bringing along his favorite stuffed animal.

Moments like these highlight what it means to SOAR. This class demonstrated Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect every step of the way, and we are incredibly proud of them. We look forward to continuing to watch Ms. Terveen’s class soar all year long.

The Great Kindness Challenge đź’›

FJC and JAE will be joining schools across the country in participating in the Great Kindness Challenge from January 26–January 30.

The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive, positive initiative that encourages students to practice kindness, empathy, and compassion in meaningful ways. Throughout the week, students are encouraged to perform simple acts of kindness—helping others, using kind words, showing gratitude, and including everyone—helping to create a more caring and connected school community.

To celebrate, we will also be holding Kindness Spirit Days throughout the week. Families are invited to review the schedule below and participate as they are able:

  • Monday, January 26 – Kick-Off to Kindness: Please wear your favorite team jersey or shirt, if possible.
  • Tuesday, January 27 – Peace, Love & Kindness: Let kindness shine through tie-dye and/or bright colors.
  • Wednesday, January 28 – Work Things Out with Kindness: Please wear workout gear or comfy clothes.
  • Thursday, January 29 – Powered by Kindness: Feel free to wear your favorite superhero shirt.
  • Friday, January 30 – In the Spirit of Kindness: Let’s wear kindness shirts or school spirit gear.

We look forward to a week filled with positive actions, thoughtful moments, and meaningful conversations as our students show how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Thank you for supporting this important initiative and helping us reinforce kindness at home and at school.

FJC Shows Its SOAR Spirit with the SOUPer Bowl Challenge

Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School is proud to kick off our annual SOUPer Bowl Challenge, a school-wide food drive led by our second grade classes that reflects the very best of our SOAR values: Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect.

From January 29 through February 9, 2026, all FJC students and families are invited to participate by donating non-perishable food items. Donations may be sent in with students and dropped off with classroom teachers.

This initiative provides a meaningful opportunity for students to take ownership of helping others, while learning how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. By supporting local families, our students demonstrate acceptance and respect for members of our community and an understanding that everyone deserves care and support.

All donated food will be shared with the Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry and AGAPE Meals for Kids, organizations that work to ensure children and families in our community have access to nutritious meals. Students will also practice safety by checking expiration dates and donating appropriate, unopened items.

We kindly ask families to ensure all donations are non-perishable and not expired. Suggested items include canned goods, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, soups, rice, juice boxes, and other shelf-stable foods.

Thank you for helping our students put SOAR into action. Through teamwork, generosity, and compassion, the FJC community continues to make a positive impact beyond our school walls.
