"The Place to be is Always FJC!"

Classroom visit by the Easter Bunny
Dear FJC Families,

As we approach Spring Break and reflect on our journey so far, it's hard to believe that we are already in mid-April! When we return, we will be welcoming the month of May, and what a wonderful year it has been.

We want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of our amazing teachers, dedicated staff, supportive families, and, of course, our enthusiastic students. It is the hard work and commitment of the entire FJC community that continues to make "FJC the Place to Be."

Some of our most memorable moments this year have been our PTA sponsored events, including:
  • Pumpkin Patch: A fun-filled day where every student got to pick their own pumpkin.
  • Wild About Reading Assemblies: Engaging assemblies that sparked a love for reading among our students.
  • Family Literacy Night: A wonderful evening promoting literacy and bringing families together in support of our learners.
  • Skydome Assembly: An exciting event that captivated our students with its interactive experience.

Additionally, we want to acknowledge the PTA for their creative touches to events, such as the beautiful balloon towers and backdrop for our Kindergarten Screening this past week. Their dedication to enhancing our school events contributes significantly to our sense of community.

We are also excited to invite you to Rocky Point Day on Saturday, May 10th! This incredible event celebrates everything Rocky Point, featuring vendors, food trucks, music, games, and a special presentation of our IMPACT Awards. We hope to celebrate with everyone and create lasting memories together!

Thank you for your partnership and dedication throughout this school year. We are grateful for your support and collaboration, which have played a vital role in creating a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students.

Wishing you all a restful and joyful Spring Break! We look forward to returning refreshed and ready for the exciting final weeks of the school year.

College and Career Week: April 21-25!

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming College and Career Week, taking place from April 21st to April 25th! This special week is designed to inspire our students and broaden their horizons as they explore various career paths and the importance of education.

Throughout the week, students will engage in a variety of exciting activities, including reading books, singing songs, and participating in stories that highlight different careers. This will provide them with a fun and interactive way to learn about the diverse options available to them in the future.

On April 23rd, we will host a Career Fair, where students will have the opportunity to hear from presenters representing various professions. This event will allow them to ask questions, learn about different career paths, and gain insights from real-world experiences.

To make this week even more exciting, we will also celebrate with a Spirit Week! Here are the details for each day:

Welcoming in the Class of 2038

This week, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet our incoming Kindergarten class, who will be graduating as the Class of 2038! Our Kindergarten Screening event was filled with excitement and joy as these bright young learners came to visit.

The students arrived with smiles, eager to meet our dedicated staff and faculty while going through the screening process. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they stepped into their new school environment.

To make this occasion even more special, students celebrated their big "Signing Day" with a festive atmosphere. Thanks to our PTA, we had a beautiful backdrop, stunning balloon towers, and an oversized pencil, adding a touch of fun to the event.

We are thrilled to welcome these new families to the FJC community and look forward to an exciting journey ahead. Welcome to the family, Class of 2038!

Kindergarten Student Researching Rabbits

Kindergartners Participate in Rabbit Research

Mrs. Gerbino and Ms. Gallino’s kindergarten classes recently worked on a research project to welcome the arrival of spring, focusing on the delightful topic of rabbits. This collaborative project provided an enriching educational experience as the two classes met daily to explore various aspects of rabbit life. Through this project, students not only developed a deeper understanding of these soft and adorable creatures but also fostered essential skills in collaboration and comprehension.

By focusing on the theme of rabbits, the students were not only engaged in a subject that piqued their interest but also developed essential skills aligned with New York State Learning Standards. The integration of various research materials, including books, Pebble Go, YouTube, and online resources, facilitated a rich learning environment where young learners could explore multiple facets of rabbit life. This variety allowed students to access information from different perspectives, enhancing their comprehension of  topics such as rabbit life cycles, habitats, eating habits, and other fascinating facts, for example… Did you know that rabbits sleep with their eyes open or that their teeth never stop growing?

This exploration was not merely passive; rather, it encouraged active discussion among peers about their findings. Collaborative learning fosters critical thinking and communication skills as children articulate their thoughts and engage with one another's ideas. The hands-on approach to research allowed students to absorb knowledge in an engaging manner while promoting social interaction—an essential component of early childhood development.

Kindergarten Students at Benner's Farm

Field Trip to Benner's Farm

Recently, our Kindergarten students had an exciting opportunity to take a field trip to Benner's Farm! It was a day filled with exploration and discovery as they learned about different animals and various aspects of farm life.

The students were thrilled to meet some adorable newborn chicks, which added to the excitement of their farm experience. They enjoyed hands-on learning while discovering how farms operate and the important role they play in our community.

The trip was not only educational but also a fantastic way for our young learners to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors. Fun was had by all, and it was a memorable experience that will surely inspire their love for animals and agriculture.

A big thank you to our teachers and chaperones for making this field trip possible!
