Student hands in a circle wearing Autism Acceptance Rainbow Bracelets

Celebrating Autism Acceptance Day at FJC

At FJC, we celebrated Autism Acceptance Day in a variety of meaningful ways that highlighted the importance of inclusion. Students were excited to receive rainbow-colored bracelets, a symbol of autism acceptance and awareness, which they proudly wore throughout the day. Thanks to the generous support of the Rocky Point SERC Committee and the hard work of 2nd-grade teacher Ms. Fasano, each student had the opportunity to wear a colorful reminder of the many experiences and strengths within the autism community. The rainbow colors represent the wide spectrum of abilities and talents, just as a rainbow shows a variety of colors.

In addition to the bracelets, Ms. McGuire (behavior specialist) created a stunning bulletin board that featured famous individuals on the autism spectrum, including Tim Burton, Albert Einstein, and Sir Anthony Hopkins. This display helped students understand that autism is a part of many unique and successful stories, encouraging everyone to celebrate differences.

It was a wonderful day to come together and embrace all the qualities that make each of us special. Autism Acceptance Day was a powerful reminder that everyone’s uniqueness should be celebrated!

Thank You to the PTA for the Skydome Assembly!

A big thank you to the PTA for bringing the incredible Skydome assembly to FJC on Wednesday, April 2! All of our students had the unique opportunity to travel to space without leaving the school. They entered an inflatable dome that transformed into a planetarium-like experience. Inside, students gazed up at the stars, learning about astronomy and the wonders of our universe.

It was an exciting and memorable experience for both students and staff, sparking curiosity and inspiring many future astronomers. We are extremely grateful to the PTA for organizing this amazing activity and providing our students with such a special learning opportunity. Thank you for helping make this day truly out of this world!

Rocky Point Teachers Share Their Expertise

We are thrilled to celebrate our Elementary Instructional Coach, Ms. Meschi, for her outstanding presentation at the Long Island Language Arts Council (LILAC) Spring Conference on Friday, March 28th. Ms. Meschi, alongside JAE ENL teacher Ms. Serpico, shared their expertise on the Science of Reading, offering Long Island teachers valuable ideas and resources to enhance their reading instruction.

This year’s conference saw record-breaking attendance, with over 350 educators joining in for this professional development event. Ms. Meschi and Ms. Serpico presented to a standing-room-only crowd, showcasing their deep knowledge and passion for education. Their session was a highlight of the conference, providing practical strategies that teachers could immediately apply in their classrooms.
