Great Kindness Challenge
The week of January 27th, FJC will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge (GKC), a global campaign that promotes kindness, social-emotional health, and bullying prevention:

  • What it is: A week-long initiative where students and families perform as many acts of kindness as possible to create a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity, and respect
  • When it's held: The GKC takes place annually during the last week of January
  • How it works: Schools receive a checklist of kind acts to complete, which students can do independently, in small groups, or as a whole class
  • What's the theme: The theme for the 2025 GKC Week is "Kindness Moves"
  • What it can do: The GKC can improve school climate, increase student engagement, and decrease bullying

Student drawing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
This January, students at FJC celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by learning about his life and the powerful impact he had on the world. Martin Luther King Jr. worked for civil rights, fighting for equality and justice for all people. His famous "I Have a Dream" speech inspired many, and students reflected on his message of kindness, fairness, and love. They learned how Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream was for everyone to be treated equally and with respect, and they thought about what their own dreams for the world might be.

As part of the celebration, students created beautiful drawings of Dr. King and came up with their own dreams for the future. Some students shared dreams like "everyone is loved" and "every one has a warm bed to sleep in." These thoughtful reflections helped remind us that we all have a role in making the world a better place. We are proud of the creative ways our students expressed their hopes for a world filled with kindness and care for all people, just like Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed.

Student faces and balloons with New Year resolutions
New Year Resolutions
Ms. Warren's First Grade Class has started the year off with excitement and reflection by creating their very own New Year Resolutions! Each student took time to think about personal goals they wanted to work towards in 2025. Some resolutions included fun and thoughtful ideas like "My goal for this year is to limit myself to 2 pieces of candy a day," "My goal for this year is to see a rainbow," and "My goals for this year are to exercise more, eat healthier, and do my best."

We are so impressed with the creativity and thoughtfulness that Ms. Warren's students put into their resolutions! These goals show how dedicated they are to growing, learning, and making positive changes in their lives. We wish all the students the best of luck as they work toward their goals and can't wait to see all the amazing things they will accomplish this year!
